CompoCompiler Features
Compo compiler uses a special command file (a text file with a very simple structure) and applies it to your selected fonts to add composites. Plus - you can build command files automatically in Compo Compiler using any font file as a source of composite information. For example, you can take Arial or Lucida Unicode and build a command file with information about all the composites in these files and then apply this command file to any of your fonts. The positions of the components in the command file are defined relatively, so command files work with almost any font, independent of the characters' proportions.

Specifications
Vertical positions of the components can be set using 3 possible methods: relatively to a certain vertical position; relative to the font's ascender line and absolutely (relative to the base character's origin point).

Component characters may be identified by names or by their Unicode indexes using simple "uniXXXX" notation.

You can even define alternative composites! So if some of components do not exist in a font, Compo Compiler will try to make an alternative variant.

And there's more: Compo Compiler properly copies kerning data from the base character of the composite (so you don't need to manually define new kerning pairs) and it can optionally generate Unicode indexes of the new composite characters using the FontLab database.

Compo Compiler comes as a self-extracting archive containing few files. Run it and enter the path to the FontLab (or TypeTool or ScanFont) directory as an extracting path. There is neither installer nor uninstaller for it - we decided to not increase the size of the downloadable file by adding features that are not really necessary, because Compo Compiler simply cannot work without FontLab or other products from the FontLab line.

System Requirements: To use Compo Compiler you need to have one of the following products installed: FontLab 3.x (strongly recommended), TypeTool 1.x or ScanFont 3.x.

System requirements
Fontographer 4.1.4 for Mac: Any Macintosh computer with 5MB RAM and a hard drive. Mac OS 8-9.2.2. The Fontographer 4.1.4 for Mac package includes three versions of the software: "PM", "FPU" and "Non-FPU". You can choose which version to install on setup. None of these versions works in Mac OS X "native" mode. Mac OS X users can run Fontographer 4.1.4 Non-FPU in Classic mode (see Key Mac technote for details).

The Future
OS compatibility and bug fix upgrade. It has been a little while since Fontographer had a maintenance upgrade to improve compatibility with current operating systems. Our first priority will be to undertake such an upgrade to make Fontographer completely compatible with Macintosh OS X and Windows XP. We estimate this will take a few months and hope to be able to release this upgrade late this year.

New features? Once the maintenance upgrade is out of the way then we intend to embark on a features upgrade. Give us your ideas. Fontographer is aimed at the desktop publishing and graphic design market. We want to make it the best tool possible for designers and publishers who are on deadlines and need to get typographical tasks done in a hurry. If you have thoughts about how to improve the interface, new tools, simpler processes, etc. then send us an email to info@signumart.com . We welcome all suggestions.
Since feature upgrades take a bit longer we expect that this next version done will get done sometime in 2006.

Just two months after taking over Fontographer, in July 2005, we have released FogLamp, our first own application to utilize the Fontographer technology. FogLamp converts Fontographer source files (.fog databases) into FontLab-compatible .vfb files. You can take your .fog project files into TransType or FontLab and turn them into professional-quality OpenType or TrueType fonts.

MacroMedia Flash™ uses TrueType fonts, but smaller sizes of these fonts can look very fuzzy when viewed on a computer screen. FontFlasher converts almost any format font into a "pixel" TrueType font which turns on only selected pixels. This gives fine text a much clearer, more legible on screen appearance.

Six Easy Steps:
1) First select a font to convert to a pixel font.
2) Choose the pixel size for your font.
3) Select a codepage for your font or Unicode to convert all characters (requires Windows XP).
4) Save your font in FontLab format (.vfb).
5) Use the Pixel tool in FontLab to edit your glyphs (requires installed Python interpreter).
6) Generate your TrueType font in FontLab, and you're done!
